About

Bronwen Williams is an education focussed associate lecturer at UNSW, Sydney in the School of Art & Design.

She holds an MFA (Research) and BFA (First Class Honours) from UNSW and a Diploma Building Design from TAFE NSW.

Bronwen’s practice engages an experimental approach to making that requires agility and the ability to traverse a range of disciplines and skills, including new technologies. Her work spans the fields of installation art, sculpture, interactive media, experience design, and object design. She has fabrication skills across wood, metal, jewellery, ceramics, model-making, 3D modelling, creative coding, digital fabrication, audio, and video capture and editing and architectural drafting and more. Bronwen’s work draws on the nuances of her experiences of being Chinese-Australian as influence in the creation of works that examine contemporary cross-cultural identity. In particular, she is interested in how the visibility and audibility of Asian-Australians is both subtly and explicitly managed by whiteness, and how non-white bodies navigate these experiences in colonial spaces.

She has exhibited at a variety galleries across Sydney and NSW including UNSW Galleries, MOP Projects, 107 Projects, Gaffa Gallery and AirSpace Projects. She has previously collaborated on projects for Sculpture at Scenic World 2018 and 2019, ISEA 2013 and the NOW now festival 2016 and 2017.

As an educator, Bronwen is passionate about promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in tertiary institutions, and building learning communities. She integrates her range of skills into a contemporary teaching practice that supports students to develop as professional practitioners. Bronwen’s teaching philosophy advocates for curiosity, connection, and collaboration as cornerstones of life-long learning.
