Plywood, acoustic foam, parametric speaker and artist’s created sound piece.

Exhibited at Articulate Project Space, Sydney

Investigating the experience of the binary relationship between sound and silence, this installation uses directional speakers to create an almost silent atmosphere, which is interrupted when the viewer’s presence causes them to become their own amplifier. Ultrasound is used to shadow the violent and chaotic sound-piece that is playing through the parametric speaker, only to be heard when one walks between the plinth and the wall hanging acoustic foam. The audience member’s body interrupts the absorption of the sound and allows them to hear the frenetic and dystopian soundscape playing within.
