Groundwork is an artwork that requires active listening and participation by the audience. The platform is designed to be walked upon, without shoes, and for the vibrations coming from the subwoofers to rise into the viewer/listener through their feet. I am using beat frequencies in this work to speak to the coming together of multiple inputs, to provide an ulterior aural experience. The vibrations moving into the platform are speaking to the potential for a fundamentally new experience of contemporary race and racial politics - one that destabilises historical Eurocentric paradigms.
