Gaiwan tea sets are traditional Chinese tea cup sets, usually lidded. For this artwork I have removed the lids of the six porcelain cups and placed small speakers inside. Each of these speakers are playing an audio track of my voice, whispering stories from my lived experience of cultural hybridity. The cups are meant to be picked up and actively listened to, exploring the potency of the voice and experiential narrative in conversations about race.
